Our Story

Our story began in New York City with nothing more than a six-bottle wine bag and a determination to build something greater. What started as a grassroots effort to share unique wines with a small circle of clients quickly grew into a dynamic importation company recognized for its entrepreneurial spirit and passion for discovery.

As demand accelerated, we scaled rapidly, navigating the complexities of international logistics and distribution with resilience and agility. When the pandemic disrupted the global wine industry, we adapted swiftly—strengthening our digital presence, reimagining sales channels, and finding innovative ways to connect with customers and partners.

Today, our focus has evolved toward empowering international brand owners to successfully enter and thrive in the U.S. market. Leveraging years of experience, deep market insight, and strong industry relationships, we provide tailored strategies that go beyond simple importation—we help brands establish their identity, expand their reach, and achieve sustainable growth in one of the world’s most competitive wine landscapes.

Matthew Ackland

President/CEO

Matthew Ackland is a private advisor and high horology specialist, with a core focus on U.S. market strategy for international producers. As the founder of MA Selections, he advises on federal and state compliance, importation and logistics, CBP liaison, CBMA optimization, and COLA submissions and waivers - guiding clients through the structural complexities of entering and operating within the United States with precision and discretion.

Matthew began his career with L’Oréal, where he developed a foundation in luxury branding, client relationships, and the delivery of exceptional experiences. His early work took him from representing leading salons in Mayfair to opening a new concept in Dubai, before returning to London to pursue a path shaped by culture and craftsmanship. This led him into the wine industry, where he immersed himself in one of the world’s most dynamic markets.

Starting at Oddbins Wine Merchants on Queensway, he quickly progressed into the on-premise sector, joining ROKA as Assistant Sommelier under Alessandro Marcesan. He later became Head Sommelier at Zuma, where he worked extensively with rare and collectible wines, developing a refined understanding of how exceptional products connect with discerning clientele.

Relocating to the United States marked a pivotal expansion of his perspective. In New York City, Matthew held roles with Italian Wine Merchants, Burgundy Wine Company, and New York Vintners, before becoming the Wine Director at BLT Prime. He later joined Angels’ Share Wines as a key Manhattan Account Manager, working closely with some of the city’s most respected buyers and sommeliers.

In 2017, Matthew founded MA Selections, representing wineries from across the globe and advising on structured U.S. market entry. Today, his work has evolved into a broader private advisory - one that sits at the intersection of International Trade and Swiss High Horology. Working with collectors and high-net-worth individuals, he specializes in the sourcing and acquisition of exceptional timepieces, applying the same principles of discipline, timing, and discernment that define his approach to market strategy.

His philosophy is deliberate and measured: fewer decisions, executed at a higher level. Across both advisory and horology, Matthew operates with a clear emphasis on discretion, alignment, and enduring value.
